International Philanthropy

In January 1954, Alpha Gam sister Margaret Moffat Toy pioneered the first home-delivery meal program in the U.S. That program is now known as Meals on Wheels. Today, we are proud partners with both Meals on Wheels and Feeding America. Through service, awareness and fundraising, we join their efforts in the fight to overcome food insecurity right here on our own community.

The Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose calls us to “welcome the opportunity of contributing to the world’s work.” In addition to our fight against hunger, Alpha Gams all across North America participate in an annual Week of Service each February. Collegiate and alumnae members serve in a variety of ways and contribute their time, energy, funds and voices to joyfully serve others.

One thing the Theta Upsilon Chapter does specifically to help fight hunger is our semi-annual Pancakes for a Purpose breakfast. Once every semester, the ladies come together and host a pancake breakfast for the whole community to enjoy. We raise money to help fight hunger by not only selling tickets, but also by having raffles and silent auctions! September is Hunger Action Month, so we always try to do something in support such as donating food to local organizations, such as the Amen House. Every February we participate in a week of service. During this week we make goodie bags for our professors, we make cards to be delivered to Meals on Wheels, and of course we volunteer!
